Water puppetry performances in Nguyên Xá and Đông Các

In 2018, the art of water puppetry in Nguyên Xá and Đông Các was included in the category of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism under Decision No. 3325/QĐ-BVHTTDL of 4 September 2018 by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Currently, there are two water districts in Huong Yen province: Xang Nguyen Xá (formerly Huong Nguyen village) and Dong Các (formerly Huong Dong village) now two districts in Huong Yen province. 

The art of water puppetry has the general characteristics of theater, of the art of puppetry in general, but due to the use of water as a stage it also has its own characteristics in specific structural components: Stage; Room; Conflict; Engineering, the art of puppetry; Conflict Control; Artist; Party Organization; Planning and Composition; Performance; Literature; Music.

The 16 performances currently include: Flag raising, flag pulling, ice bending, The bow bow, the first four, the clown bow, the bow, the duck, the fish, the flying, the battle of the bridge, the bow, the rice drum, the golden tortoise offering the sword to the lion, the rose to the temple, the rose-headed eagle, the celestial object, the four spirits.
